Tolkien started rewriting the Hobbit in the style of LotR, but what I really want is the Silmarillion in the style of the Hobbit.

In a hole in the fabric of the universe there lived a god.

Now, this was not one of those minor gods of bedtime stories or petty wars for heaven; this was the One God, all-loving and all-knowing, who created the world – only he hadn’t created the world just yet, which is why he was sitting in a hole in the fabric of the universe.

My fave part of any story like that Disney lawsuit are the credulous responses. Just a wall of “Wow, aliens aren’t landing bc there’s no intelligent life here! Idiocracy! Terminator 2 we’re not gonna make it dot gif! What ever happened to common sense? What ever happened to critical thinking?” from people who have a need to believe they’re the smartest, most commonsensical boy in a world of dolts too stupid to survive

But they. Don’t think critically about any story that validates this belief. They’ll eat up every headline about “frivolous lawsuits” and “stupid criminals”, they devoured rainbow parties and now they devour every story about TikTok challenges. They don’t stop and think “hey, is there anyone who would have something to gain from making me believe people are stupid?” They just snark about how a story they didn’t read about how someone’s suing a hundred-billion dollar company for a wedgie is Totally Destroying Their Faith in Humanity and move on, content in their knowledge that they’re one of the smart ones

Pokémon development history fascinates me like. Pokemon red and green were genuinely passion projects based off of very personal themes and which were kinda just assumed to end up as late game boy shelf filler but now they’re The biggest media franchise straight up.

and honestly knowing that makes stuff like the insistence on version differences and mythical pokemon make more sense. i mean yeah it’s capitalism obviously. they are like that simply to steal cash from you. but also like, the trading mechanic between red and green and the rumours of mew literally turned pokemon into a phenomenon and prevented it from being a forgotten rpg on a dead system. i’d be reluctant to remove what made my game go from an idea barely able to be pitched to the biggest sensation ever. like pokemon very nearly did not get made and no one expected it to be anything but another random game boy title no one would remember. and it seemed that way until those things meant people kept buying the games well after they came out!

also like legit. take a look at these concept sketches. they’re adorable.

like genuinely if you’re interested in pokemon or like. video games at all. look up the development of the first and second generation of pokemon bc we know an absurd amount about them and have a ridiculous amount of beta assets- we have an entire, mostly complete, early version of gold and silver that you can play. it’s an old demo so you can only play a little of it but you can literally play an incomplete build of gold and silver that just. is vastly different to the game we got. it’s insane. it’s fascinating seeing what changed.

a delicate elven prince has been thrown in irons and put to work in the dwarven mine

he has been accepted as one of their own and is currently enjoying boys’ night at Garulf Rockenstone’s Sports Bar and Grille

the dwarves have noticed his developing muscles and are now congratulating him and tussling his hair. good for him!

the dwarves have also begun to notice his freckled face and shoulders, the way his dirty blonde hair falls around his slender neck just so, his small perky breasts beneath his work tunic, complemented ever so elegantly by his slightly toned body… nay, it would be uncouth to say more
